Bachelor of Music (Music Education)

Our Honours Bachelor of Music in Music Education program is unique in featuring:

  • Performance emphasis: weekly, hour-long, private lessons on major instruments with extensive performance opportunities
  • Participation in outstanding vocal and instrumental ensembles. Explore ensemble opportunities
  • Experiential learning and real-world teaching experience with in-house programming
  • Academic foundations: students build a strong academic foundation for teaching by studying history, theory, general musicianship and music education philosophy, psychology, and methodology.
  • Breadth: opportunity to study as many as eight different instruments alongside instrumental and choral conducting, as well as popular music pedagogies.
  • Service learning: all third-year students take Music Education in Action, a community service learning course, where they put their learning into practice in real-life situations.
  • An active Music Education Students' Association (MESA), a student chapter of the Ontario Music Educators’ Association.
  • Direct pathway enrty to Western's Faculty of Education for qualifying students.

Leadership Opportunities at the Don Wright Faculty of Music

Concurrent Degrees
Meet Morgan, a Music Education student who chose to add to her Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree by also completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in French Studies, so she could pursue both her passions.
