Morning Activities

Information Session
10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Information session about our programs and audition process/requirements. Admissions staff, faculty members and Students' Council representatives will be on hand to answer questions after the presentation.

Additional opportunity: Feel free to stop by the Western Young Winds rehearsal in Talbot College 101 to see current Music Education students in action conducting, teaching, mentoring, and leading sections.

Afternoon Activities

Side by Side Large Ensemble rehearsals
11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Students will have opportunity to sit in with our large ensemble in rehearsal that day and experience performing and interacting with our students and ensemble directors. Prospective students can bring their instrument and perform alongside or just sit and audit if they would like.

CEARP - Composition, Electroacoustic Research and Performance Facility
1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Jason Stanford will be talking about the importance of music technology in general and the study of Electroacoustic music composition.  In particular he will be speaking about preparing students of music for a world where the creation and consumption of music is completely mediated through technology.

Popular Music Studies
1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Pop Music Studies students will showcase the Pop Music Studio and do a demonstration of a recording session. Prospective students will have an opportunity to learn about the different opportunities in this program and career paths that some of the graduates have gone on to.

Professor Patrick Schmidt (department chair) will speak about Music Education at Western, the numerous opportunities for students and be available to answer question.

Piano Masterclass with Stéphan Sylvestre
1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Professor Sylvestre will be presenting a piano masterclass in our recital hall with students from his studio.

Percussion Studio Open House
1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Jill Ball and students in the Percussion Studio will present a short performance and be available for a Q&A period. Prospective percussion students will have the opportunity to explore the state-of-the-art percussion facilities, instruments, and dedicated rehearsal spaces.

Student Recitals
