Oboe Day

The Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western will be hosting Oboe Day on Saturday March 24, 2012. This day is free for all participants and open to all oboe players (professionals, amateurs, prospective university oboe students as well as beginners).

This event is being hosted by Ian Franklin and Allison Graham.

Special guest, repairman and retailer, Gary Armstrong will be here that day with a display of instruments and equipment from his shop. Oboe Day participants will have the opportunity to try out new instruments and gear.

Also, Greg James of Precision Music Products Ltd. will be joining us. Greg is a Musician/ Machinist who will demonstrate his edge clamping gouging machine for oboe reeds at our eventalong with a special offer: He will gouge up to 10 pieces of oboe cane for each person providing him with the cane, split but not pre-gouged, cut to length, and presoaked. This will enable interested parties to see the process, try the machine themselves, and go home with sample pieces to try. This will be a wonderful and unique experience for all oboists!
