Bobbi Thompson joined the Don Wright Faculty of Music at the University of Western Ontario in 2002 and currently teaches Saxophone and Jazz Ensemble. Praised for her outstanding versatility, Ms. Thompson’s diverse performing career includes engagements with orchestras, wind and jazz ensembles, musical theatre companies, solo recitals and numerous chamber concerts in the United States, Canada, and Israel.

Ms. Thompson’s performance credits include appearances with the Toronto Wind Orchestra, the Grand Theatre (Canada), the Dallas Jazz Orchestra, and the world-famous University of North Texas Lab Bands and Wind Ensemble. Her orchestral experience includes performances with Orchestra London Canada, the Irving Symphony Orchestra (TX), and the Plano Chamber Orchestra (TX).

A native of Twin Falls, ID, Ms. Thompson graduated in 1995 from the University of Idaho with the Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Performance, studying with highly-acclaimed pedagogue Robert Miller. She was awarded numerous academic and music scholarships including Best Collegiate Jazz Saxophonist at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival.

She completed the Master of Music Education in 1997 as a pupil of both James Riggs and Eric Nestler at the University of North Texas, where she was awarded a Teaching Assistantship in Music Education and a Charn Uswacoke Music Scholarship. While completing her post-baccalaureate, she studied with noted jazz artists Timothy Ishii and Rob Wilkerson, and recorded as bass clarinetist with both the University of North Texas Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band under the direction of Eugene Migliaro Corporon and Dennis Fisher.

From 2001 to 2009, Ms. Thompson served on the faculty at The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, ON, teaching saxophone and chamber music. She is a certified All-Level Music Teacher through the State of Texas, and taught music at The Bishop Strachan School in Toronto, ON. She has taught saxophone and clarinet extensively in the school districts of North Texas, Manitoba, and Southern Ontario. In addition to her performing and teaching schedule, Ms. Thompson is a member of the College of Examiners at the Royal Conservatory of Music and an active clinician and adjudicator throughout Southern Ontario.
