Canadian bass-baritone Brian McIntosh has earned international acclaim for his “powerful, voluminous voice and imposing presence” (New York Newsday). As a regular performer with opera companies and festivals in North America and Europe, Mr. McIntosh enjoyed success in roles such as Kaspar in Der Freischütz and Falstaff in The Merry Wives of Windsor in Zwingenberg, Germany, Doctor Bartolo in Il Barbiere di Siviglia with Vancouver Opera, Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro with New Orleans Opera, Banquo in Macbeth with Opéra de Montréal, Nourabad in Les Pêcheurs des Perles with New York City Opera, Don Magnifico in La Cenerentola with Opera Lyra Ottawa, Don Alfonso in Cosi fan tutte with the Canadian Opera Company. Plutone in Orfeo with Helsinki Festival, Antinoo in Il Ritorno d’Ulisse with Bad Hersfeld Festival, and Krushina in Bartered Bride with Kiel Opera and Essen Stadt Theater in Germany.

Brian McIntosh was Head of Voice and Opera at the University of Alberta. Prior to that, he taught voice and opera at Rutgers University, as well as at the University of Western Ontario (from 1991-99). He was a visiting Professor at the Hochschule für Musik in Köln, Germany and also a voice instructor at COSI in Sulmona, Italy and Opera Nuova in Edmonton.
