Pianist Emily Hsu holds a Master and Bachelor Degrees in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from University of Illinois and Oberlin Conservatory.

As an educator, Emily has taught group piano classes for college music majors and for beginners. She is also a certified Yamaha method teacher and an active member of the Ontario Registered Music Teacher Association (ORMTA) and Music Teacher National Association (MTNA). In the piano pedagogy class, she lectures on topics including how to choose a piano method, movement and pianists, how to do private and group lesson planning, and how to teach rhythm.

As a piano collaborator, Emily enjoys accompanying for instrumentalists and singers. She has been an accompanist for lyric diction, vocal foundation, and ballet classes. She has participated in summer training and music festivals including the Queen of Pudding, Vancouver International Song Institute, and the Elora Music Festival. She has received coaching from renowned singers including Benjamin Butterfield, Francois Le Roux, Rosemarie Landry, Julie Simson, Kimberly Barber, and Daniel Lichti, and pianists including John Hess, Leslie De’Ath, Rena Sharon, Cameron Stowe, Terence Dawson, Alison d’Amato, Erika Swizer and Laura Loewen, and Arlene Shrut.

Mostly recently she performed with numerous vocalists at the Academy of Music of Elora festival and with the Soprano Phoebe MachRae, at the Silk Purse in Vancouver.
