Paul Merritt

Paul Merritt has been the organ instructor at Western since 2005. An honours performance graduate (BMus ’75) from Western, Paul studied with Dr. Larry Cortner and was a prize winner in the RCCO International Organist’s Competition in 1973.

In 1975 he became Director of Music at Central United Church in Moncton, NB. During his nine years there he was an active Organ Recitalist and Choral Clinician throughout the Atlantic Provinces. At Mount Allison University in Sackville, NB he taught advanced Choral conducting and directed the University Choir where he was recorded by CBC.

In January 1984 he became the Director of Music at First-St. Andrew’s United
Church in London were he remains responsible for a large varied music program.  He is Artistic Director for the “Music at First-St. Andrew's Concert Series” which has featured performances by his Choir with composer John Rutter,
Stephen Cleobury and Robert Cooper. On this series he has brought Organists
Simon Preston, John Scott, Gillian Weir, David Briggs and many others to London.
Since moving back to Ontario, he has been a featured Organist on “Organists in Recital” (CBC) and in 2005 recitalist for the National R.R.C.O. Convention.
