Rachel Mallon

Rachel Mallon, soprano, has performed and attended workshops in opera, art song and vocal pedagogy across North America, Europe and the Middle East. Ms. Mallon currently studies with world-renowned soprano, Ruth Falcon. Ms. Mallon has studied voice with a number of well known teachers; among them she cites Ruth Falcon and Wendy Nielsen as her strongest influences. She also works extensively with Metropolitan Opera and New York City Opera coaches. Most recently, Ms. Mallon sang in masterclasses with Mignon Dunn, mezzo-soprano, Joan Dornemann, Metropolitan Opera Coach and Assistant Conductor, and Hemdi Kfir, Metropolitan Opera Diction Coach. She attended the International Vocal Arts Institute in Tel Aviv, Israeland performed in many concerts with one highlight being her work as Rosalba in Catan’s new opera, Florencia. Ms. Mallon also recently recorded Mozart’s Vesperes Solennes with the Blyth Festival Singers. Other performances include The Poet Sings Recital Series, Opera Galas for Rostad Productions, Handel’s Messiah with the International Symphony Orchestra and the Blyth Festival Orchestra and Faure’s Requiem with the Stratford Civic Orchestra. Some roles include Fiordiligi in Cosi fan Tutte, Paquette in Candide, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro(UWOpera), Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Opera Nuova) and Avis Grubb in The Music Man (The Huron Country Playhouse).
Ms. Mallon has gained much success and fulfillment from her students. Her graduates have been accepted into many renowned schools, including the Manhattan School of Music, and attained awards such as the esteemed Met Competition Encouragement Award, Most Promising Undergraduate Award (NATS) and a few students have won the Highest National Mark for their Grade Ten Exams, First Class Honours with Distinction (Conservatory Canada) in consecutive years. Ms. Mallon personally received the Tom and Miggsie Lawson National Teacher’s Study Scholarship from Conservatory Canada in 2007. Many of her students have also attended Provincials and have won numerous awards in Classical as well as First Place in Senior Broadway.
In 2011, one of Ms.Mallon’s students debuted with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony. Her hour and a half performance, with the 52 piece orchestra, was exceptional. This student tours North America, Europe and Australia and has won a Polaris Prize as well as being a JUNO Award Nominee. Ms. Mallon’s students have been accepted into prestigious programs (ie. Tanglewood) as well as hired into professional choirs (ie. The Nathaniel Dett Chorale). They perform lead roles at programs across North America and Europe, for UWOpera and also in community theatre.
Ms. Mallon holds a Masters of Music in Voice Literature and Performance from The University of Western Ontario. She founded the Voice Workshop held in Stratford, Ontario in 2004. She thrived as artistic director and voice teacher and its continued success motivated her to offer the program for four consecutive years. She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and an active adjudicator in Ontario.
She enjoys teaching voice performance for The University of Western Ontario’s Faculty of Music.
