Sonja Dennis

Sonja Dennis is passionate about choral conducting. Mrs. Dennis recently completed eight seasons as Artistic Director with the Milton Choristers. She completed a Bachelor of Music: Honours Church Music at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo. She studied organ and choral conducting with Jan Overduin and voice with Patricia Pascoe. She conducted Handel’s oratorio La Resurrezione with the Laurier Baroque Ensemble and was Assistant Conductor for the Laurier Chapel Choir. Mrs. Dennis is honoured to be the guest conductor for the Laurier Alumni Choir for Homecoming 2010.
In October 2007 Mrs. Dennis was chosen to be the Conducting Fellow with the Canadian Chamber Choir (CCC) working under Dr. Julia Davids while on tour in Ontario. Mrs. Dennis continues to tour with the CCC now as a chorister and in August 2009 participated in the CCC’s first professional recording In Good Company released at Podium in May 2010.
Although her passion is choral conducting Mrs. Dennis has a deep love for solo singing too. She has continued to study voice privately with teachers such as Glenn Gardiner, original member of the Canadian Opera Company, and Marianne Bindig in Toronto. Mrs. Dennis appears regularly as a chorister and soloist in various ensembles in South Western Ontario.
In June 2010 Mrs. Dennis completed her Master of Music in Performance and Literature, specializing in choral conducting at the University of Western Ontario studying under Dr. Victoria Meredith and Dr. Gerry Neufeld. She is the Director of Music at Colborne Street United Church and resides in London with husband, Anthony.
