9502 Applied Music. Available at extra fee through the Faculty of Part-time and Continuing Education. No credit or transcript record in degree programs.
9506 Collaborative Musicianship. A course intended to teach the pianist and orchestral instrumentalist the principles of ensemble playing as well as the literature of Solo Instrumental Works and Chamber Music. Designed for students majoring in Piano or Orchestral Instruments in Honors Performance and the Masters in Literature and Performance degree. BY AUDITION.
9507 Contemporary Techniques and Repertoire An introduction to contemporary music from 1945 and after, through preparation and performance of appropriate repertoire in a masterclass setting. This course will incorporate oral presentations involving analysis of performance practice issues along with related artistic and cultural topics. BY AUDITION.
9508 Applied Music for Non-performance Majors. (In programs which allow a full course of Applied Music for credit; audition required.)

9510y Vocal Pedagogy. A systematic study of Voice Technique and how to teach it, surveying the vocal treatises from the earliest roots of bel canto in the 16th century up to the most recent voice science.

9515 Vocal Repertory With Piano. Survey of the literature for voice and piano, with detailed study and supervised performance of selected works.
9516 Instrumental Seminar I. A study of the major works, styles, genres and performance practices of Instrumental music prior to the Nineteenth century with conductor's analyses of selected works. OFFERED EVERY SECOND YEAR.
9517 Instrumental Seminar II. A study of major works, styles, genres and performance practices of Instrumental music from the Nineteenth century to the present with conductor's analyses of selected works. OFFERED EVERY SECOND YEAR.
9528 Ensemble. Degree requirement; placement by audition. University of Western Ontario Symphony Orchestra, 90-piece orchestra. Dedicated to performing the major orchestral repertoire from the 18th century to the present. Four concerts a year which include programs with the UWO choirs, concerto performances featuring winners of the annual UWO Concerto Competition, and world premieres of major contemporary composers.

9564 Chamber Orchestra. University of Western Ontario Chamber Orchestra, 30-piece chamber orchestra. Fall term consists of two programs of chamber orchestra and chamber music repertoire spanning the last 400 years. Winter term consists of working with UWO's renowned Opera Workshop in fully staged operatic presentations. In addition the UWOCO participates regularly in performances and readings of student compositions.

9593 Seminar in Performance Research I. Exposure to and critical evaluation of a wide range of reference sources for performance research; review of "the canon" from about 1650, concentrating on the historical context and theoretical foundations of representative masterpieces; refinement of formal argumentation and writing skills. OFFERED YEARLY.
9594 Contemporary issues in performance practice, the nature and reception of musical works and the nature and history of performance itself. Includes extensive readings and discussions on selected general topics, and more focused seminar presentations. OFFERED YEARLY.
