Audition Information for Strings

Applicants must be prepared to play:

1. Two pieces (or movements) of contrasting styles at the Conservatory Grade VIII level (Grade X for prospective Performance candidates).
The pieces need not be memorized. An accompanist is preferable but not required.

2. Technical requirements (scales, arpeggios, double stops). The Grade VIII Conservatory syllabus Western Ontario Conservatory of Music or The Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto should be consulted as a guide to the minimum level required.

3. A short sightreading excerpt at the Grade VI level. (Double bass majors should expect several short sightreading excerpts.) The student must own or be prepared to purchase an instrument of professional quality. It is recommended that students contact their future teachers before purchasing an instrument.
