Announcing the 2023 High School Vocal Competition Winners

Congratulations to Ellieanna Yurchuk, Grand Prize Winner of last month’s High School Vocal Competition at Western University.

Ellieanna YurchukEllieanna (pictured left), who performed Angels Ever Bright and Fair by G. F. Handel and Lied der Mignon by F. Schubert, was one of 13 participants who had the opportunity to perform in von Kuster Hall for faculty members, students, family and friends on October 20.

Competition organizer and voice faculty member Bethany Hörst noted that all singers “showcased great poise, preparation and musicality” as well as “amazing artistry.”

Honourable Mention Prize Winners Clara Sal and KikiHonourable mention prize winners announced were Kiki Beniston, Sal Rogers and Clara Moniz (pictured left to right with Beth Hörst). The Grand Prize winner received a cash prize of $250, and all winners received their choice of Opera at Western performance tickets or a voice lesson with a Western faculty member. All participants received written feedback as well as a recording of their performance to help these young musicians plan for future auditions and competitions.

Sincere thanks to all the participants and collaborative pianists, including Marianna Chibotar-Rutkevich and Connor O'Kane, who contributed to a wonderful afternoon of music for our faculty and students.
