Announcing TorQ Percussion Quartet Residency

The Don Wright Faculty of Music is delighted to announce that beginning in Fall 2024 TorQ Percussion Quartet has been appointed as an Ensemble in Residence at the Don Wright Faculty of Music, embarking on an exciting collaboration that promises to enrich both our academic and artistic landscapes.

Entering their 20th season, TorQ Percussion Quartet remains known for their innovative and dynamic approach to percussion performance. They bring a wealth of experience, excitement, and expertise to concert stages across North America. Comprising members Richard Burrows, Adam Campbell, Jamie Drake, and Daniel Morphy (biography information), TorQ has captivated audiences with their eclectic repertoire and mesmerizing stage presence.

As Percussion Ensemble in Residence, TorQ will be actively engaged in a series of performances, masterclasses, and workshops throughout the academic year. Their diverse repertoire spans classical, contemporary, innovation, and world music, providing students with a unique opportunity to explore a broad spectrum of percussion styles. TorQ's commitment to artistic excellence aligns seamlessly with the Don Wright Faculty of Music's dedication to fostering a vibrant and innovative musical community.

They will play a pivotal role in enhancing our percussion education program. Their members, all accomplished educators, will lead masterclasses and private lessons, offering students personalized insights into advanced percussion techniques, ensemble dynamics, and career development in the field.

This appointment marks an innovative approach to percussion music education in a university environment. TorQ's residence not only provides students with exposure to world-class performances but also immerses them in a collaborative learning experience. The quartet's residency will serve as a catalyst for creativity and entrepreneurial thinking, pushing the boundaries of traditional pedagogy, experiential learning, and encouraging students to explore new avenues within the realm of percussion.

Our percussion majors will have the unique opportunity to collaborate directly with TorQ in side-by-side performances, gaining valuable hands-on experience and exposure to professional standards. The quartet's presence will inspire a culture of curiosity, experimentation, and artistic exploration within our academic community.

We look forward to a transformative and enriching partnership with the TorQ Percussion Quartet as they assume their role as an Ensemble in Residence at the Don Wright Faculty of Music. This collaboration reflects our commitment to providing students with unparalleled opportunities for artistic and intellectual growth.
